They changed it in the past decade due to pressure from groups who called the Orangemen a sexist name.

Until 2004 the Syracuse Orange used to be known as the Syracuse Orangemen and Orangewomen. The name was officially changed to the Orange in order to be gender neutral and for the Nickname to be the school color.

Yeah they were called Orangemen for a long time.
But then they got concerns they might be offending some people.
So now they're just fruit.

Yes, they were known as the Orangemen. They changed because it was retarded and now the Syracuse "orange" is even more retarded than that!

They changed in 2004 from Orangemen for Men's sports and Orangewomen for Women's sports to just "Orange".

Same reason St. Johns changed thier name from Redmen to redstorm.....because too many @ssholes got on their high horse and thought that those names are offensive!!

yes, it was seen as offensive to native americans so they changed to tho orange.
