What is the function of these "stones" in the pear? If they are of any value why don't other fruits have stones?

Do you mean those black things by the core? They are the seeds. In order to be labelled a fruit the pears must have them inside.

Do you mean a large pit? Sorry not a pear - you are eating something with one large seed not a bunch of small ones. That is an apricot or a plum or an avocado, never a pear.

Do you mean that gritty texture of the flesh but there is no color associated with it? That comes from the pears being left on the tree too long instead of being picked mature and hard. Just think of it as a quirk of pears and keep on eating.

They have seeds. The purpose of the seeds is to grow more pears. Peaches have stones as do avocados for the same reason.
