Does anyone have any tips for maintaining my yard and garden.

I have 2 dogs and a chicken they are killing grass with urine and pot holes.

I've already fenced in my garden but the grass is now intertwined in the chicken wire and I cannot keep up with it so many of my flowers are hidden behind the grass.

I hate it, please help Yahoo members

Dogs are trainable. Create a dog run, and train them to do their business there and only there. Make a point of cleaning out the solids so it doesn't become a punishment for them to go to their toilet. Let them out to romp only when they are done.

In my experience, there isn't much you can do about a digging dog, it's wired into them.

Chickens will eat just about anything and will scratch around for it. If your grass is growing strongly enough to block your fence, it should be able to survive their scratchings. If it can't, then maybe you will need to pen the chicken for awhile until your lawn recovers. Chickens are not too smart about vertical maneuverings, so it will take awhile for it to figure it out, but they *can* fly a little. I hope you've fenced the top of your garden, or that it has things in it that chickens find entirely unpalatable.

I am a lazy gardener who doesn't like to pull grass or spray poison near plants that I like. So I am wondering what kind of grass you have, that it covers most of your flowers. Most grasses don't grow too tall, and there are tall and very tall growing flowers you could be growing instead of what you've got.

You could put a thin line of grass killer inside the chicken wire fence to kill the grass that grows there. If you do this you will have to be careful that you don't also kill your garden (that is why I said a thin line). Also it will have to be where your chickens and pets cannot get at it just in case it could hurt or kill them as well. The best way may be to pull out the grass. I know it is a pain but try doing a small area at a time so you are not overwhelmed with it. Once it is all done it will be easier to maintain.

I cant help with the chicken, but I also have 2 dogs. Dont get rid of them!!!!! Pet stores and the Doctors Foster and Smith catalogue has different supplements and special dog biscuits that have things in them to neutralize there urine to help prevent the yellow spots in the lawn.
