Historians believe that modern numerology is an integration of the teachings from Ancient Babylonia, Pythagoras and his followers, (6 th. Century B.C. Greece) Astrological philosophy from Hellenistic Alexandria, early Christian mysticism, the occultism of the early Gnostics and the Hebrew system of the Kabbalah. The Indian Vedas, the Chinese "Circle of the Dead",and the Egyptian "Book of the Master of the Secret House", (Ritual of the Dead) are records giving strong evidence that Numerology dates back thousands of years.

Pythagoras and other philosophers of the time believed that because mathematical concepts were more "practical" (easier to regulate and classify) than physical ones, they had greater actuality. This is an idea in harmony with philosophical pragmatism and a choice for permanent concepts over changeable physicality.

St. Augustine of Hippo in A.D. 354 - 430 wrote " Numbers are the Universal language offered by the deity to humans as confirmation of the truth." Similar to Pythagoras, he too believed that everything had numerical relationships and it was up to the mind to seek and investigate the secrets of these relationships or have them revealed by divine grace.

In 325 A.D., following the First Council of Nicaea, departures from the beliefs of the state Church were classified as civil violations within the Roman Empire. Numerology had not found favor with the Christian authority of the day. It was assigned to the field of unapproved beliefs along with astrology and other forms of divination and "magic." Through this religious purging, the spiritual significance assigned to the heretofore "sacred" numbers began to disappear. In spite of this suppression there were still many devout believers, who kept the secret knowledge locked away.

An example of the influence of numerology in English literature is Sir Thomas Browne's 1658 Discourse The Garden of Cyrus. In it the author illustrates that the number five and related Quincunx pattern throughout art, nature and mysticism. The Discourse is a late example of the influence of Pythagorean thought in English philosophy.

Numerology
In the world of numerology, the ancient study of numbers, all numbers have a reality of their own. To the numerologist, all of the hustle and bustle of this modern world can be reduced to the numbers that stand behind the appearances. Each number has a life and meaning of its own and, in the last analysis, this life is our life. Using only the date of our birth and our given name (as recorded on our birth certificate), we can find those numbers that represent our particular life force. When these life numbers are seen in the context of the continual interchange and play of numbers in the world around us, certain trends and opportunities become clear. At any time during our life we are primarily working with one or several specific numbers and what they symbolize.

I've been using my own brand of numerology that's a mix of what I've learned from a pro I used to work with, what I've read, what makes sense and what I've personally noticed in people with certain numerological vibrations. I also use astrology to enhance it. There are so many good books; your best bet is to develop your own usable system from what you learn and observe.

I don't personally follow it but I can understand how it would have been used cryptically to hide information within certain religious texts. This could explain the warnings of making changes by adding or taking away from texts. And that the original texts were hidden and regarded as being sacred messages to or from or even about God. Why this would be necessary considering what would be Gods authority is questionable from a certain point of view. However, the story of Babylon and confounding speech and writings is interesting in this respect also. It is like having known the truth and than hidden it within scripture only to be revealed as having been known to us many generations ago. Kind of like a repressed memory but knowledge instead. Perhaps because of our arrogance the knowledge was taken away from us by hiding it until the appropriate date and time.......Revelations. In the Hand or in the forehead could also be interpreted as hiding knowledge or knowing it thru this code. Whatever the case we have in my personal opinion been watched and manipulated by unknown individuals from somewhere. The Lord(s) giveth and the Lord(s) taketh away.....knowledge of the truth of all things.

Not me. it's never been one of my interest . my mom was into horoscopes so bad at one time, it had me worried so I stayed away from all of it. But before she died. she lost interest also. As it was not happening with her, what she was being told. to her that would happen,so i just wrote it off as being phony.
