How about Dr. Mae Jemison? She was an astronaut, but if you look at her bio, you'll see that she is also a serious scientist.

What I used to teach all my students as we began the year was that we are all scientists as we are studying all the things around us trying to understand them. Things are being discovered all the time. Science means to know. So as you quest for knowledge you are being a scientist.Science is the study of the world around you. We are all scientists.

Do a yahoo search for "black physicists" or "hispanic scientist". There are many sights dedicated to all different race, colors, sexes, etc. They are not hard to find. I bet one lives within 20 miles of your home.

Of course there are lots of scientists who are currently alive and not white - I'm guessing you meant famous scientists who are still alive and not of european decent. (Part of the problem is that the impact of a scientist's work usually isn't realized for years if not decades, so they often don't become famous until after they die.)

Try looking up people who have won the Nobel Prize in the last 10 years or so - there are bound to be some winners who aren't white men.

Someone else mentioned astronauts - many astronauts are also scientists, and while they may not be world famous, it may still work for your paper.

Some names for you to look up:
Rosalyn Sussman Yalow (white female, still alive, won Nobel Prize in 1977)
Chen Ning Yang (Chinese male, still alive, won Nobel Prize in 1957)
Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar (Indian male, died in 1995, won Nobel Prize in 1983)
Herman Russell Branson (African American male, died in 1995)
Elmer Samuel Imes (African American male, died in 1941, 2nd african american to earn a PhD in physics)
Lise Meitner (white female, died in 1968)
Marie Curie (white female, died in 1934, won 2 nobel prizes)
Maria Goeppert-Mayer (white female, died in 1972, won nobel prize)
Chien-Shiung Wu (Chinese female, died in 1997)

By the way, lots of good information can be found on the internet, you just have to look at everything with a skeptical eye.

The first one that comes to mind is Subramaniam Chandrashekhar of India, but I don't know if he is still living or not.

I don't understand what you mean by "White + Dead". Could you cite some examples? Or add details that clarify your question further?
