My Dodge 2002 Stratus front passenger window is stuck all the way down and won't roll up. It is a power window, and it just won't roll up. It has done this before but has always rolled up within an hour. This happend last nite and it has been 12 hrs since and still won't roll up. I checked the fuses and it's not that because only the front passenger window is stuck the other windows are still functional. I don't want to take it into town to find out it is something that I possibly fix at home. Plus I would have to travel into town which is 15 miles away from me. It just got done snowing where I live and is about 30-40 degrees right now. So I would like to find an alternative to going to a mechanic.

Well I been reading everyones repsponses and I'm really confused. I don't know whats what under the hood. So i wouldn't even know how to take apart/put together the door panel. I'm torn on taking it in because I can't afford taking it in to a mechanic. I really need the car. My friends father looked at the fuses last night and thought that it wasn't that becuase all the other windows worked. To answer one persons question the switch on the passenger door and on the driver door won't roll up the window. Thanks for everyones responses, they sound good but I think I'll take it in and find some way to pay it.

Your window motor went out. You would need to remove your door panel and remove the motor which is probably riveted in, just drill them out or chisel the ends off to remove the rivets. You could get lucky and if you can get a hold of the glass pull it up and have someone else push the button. Just for temporary until you get the new motor.

Check your fuses before you do anything. You might just have blown one. Will the window go up using another switch, like its own or the driver's panel switch? If yes, then replace the bad switch or just always use the working switch.

Otherwise, disassemble the door panel to get to the window. Usually there are screws around the panel, sometimes covered by screw-hole-covers. Use gentle force when removing the panel. There are usually clips helping to hold in the panel in addition to screws. Pull gently but firmly there. Once you have the panel off, you can better assess what is stuck. Unstick it, and try to remedy what is causing the sticking. Sometimes a roller or gear gets off the track. Usually you can adjust the fit with a screw or two. You can do this yourself. It is not difficult. Have the Haynes or Dodge shop manual on hand to guide you.

Don't take it to the shop! You will get so jerked around. It's really not hard to do yourself. Get the Haynes manual at Autozone.

Fixing yer car window is not a job for the home mechanic!
Take it to the dealer and pay the price!
If you try to take it apart--you'll be mighty lucky if you don't get several fingers cut off, when you unbolt the electric motor! (Been there--seen that!).
Some Chrysler cars had a plastic gear track that moved with the window, and in cold weather they would crack in two, and the window wouldn't go up.
The inner panel must be taken off (hiddeen clips and screws), you must know the proper position of the workings before you dismantle it, and better have yer hospitalisation paid up before you start, because there are surprises that come when you get yer hands up inside the door!

Maybe the wires are cracked that happened to me with my dodge. The wires got stretch from the wind grabbing the door making it go back further. I could only put the window up or down when the door was opened a little bit. Or the window is off track.

If you know what you are doing go for it but since it is power window it could be more tricky. Chances are the window just came off the track. Be prepared to have to take the interior door panel off.

first thing, hows the switch,if its ok then take off the door panel and have someone lift up on the window while you work the switch,to help it out,its probably just stuck, also while you got the panel off check to see if it went off the track.
