I mean, what makes up Chemistry, precisely? I'm thinking that most if it has to do with similar speech patterns - fast vs slow, thoughtful vs witty, superficial vs deep... I don't think it is physical attraction, similar interests, or values. I've dated attractive guys with similar interests and values and we couldn't hold a conversation, each of us being good conversationalists in our own right. And if it is an "instant" connection, what makes that happen? A rat study showed that if you put a bunch of rats together, the ones that end up mating are the ones who have the most different cell surface proteins. Nature's way of ensuring biodiversity. So maybe it just comes down to smell. Could the "instant" connection just be phermones?

=Kahlil Gibran defines it as "spiritual affinity". It's the hidden element of chemistry. It's when two beings meet and connect on a deeper level. It can only be felt in the heart and soul. It's about friendship, respect, humor and the feelings of warmth and contentment that come when you are in his/her presence. Check out this link for more of an explaination.

I was just dating a man for three months and we just decided to be "friends" because there was no chemistry. the sex was awkward and it felt like no matter how much time we spent together we still knew nothing about each others personalities. I believe that you might have something there when you talk about speech patters. We had a lot in common but we just did not have what it took to have meaningful conversations.

I don't have a Ph.D. in chemistry. However, on a spiritual level, which is sometimes quickly dismissed in our society, I think it's when your spirity (not your soul) recognizes its counterpart in another.

Don't let Hollywood convince you that there is such a thing as "love at first sight." Live in the real word. There is NO REAL instant connection. If you convince yourself that there is such a thing, then you're only setting yourself up for a might fall.

Good luck...
