Yes, but they don't get press. After all - the Roman Catholic Church adamantly opposes the Death Penalty, advocates strong social services for the poor, and the Jubiliee for third-world debt (Bono championed that.) But that doesn't sell newspapers as well as a few isolated murders of doctors who perform abortions.

Wrong AGAIN. Boy you liberals just can't face the facts. President Bush did not block, ban or prevent stem cell research. He stopped federal funding for embryonic stem cell research - a research that is still going on and producing ZERO cures or human treatments. Don't you think the big bad pharmaceutical companies - that you libs hate so much - would be pouring even more money into it if they could profit from the results?! Furthermore many states (e.g. California, Illinois) have passed state funding initiatives for embryonic stem cell research. Some of the world's best pharmaceutical R&D and teaching hospitals are located and headquarters in these two states - and yet the research is still producing ZERO results. Adult stem cell research on the other hand has resulted in 72 known cures and/or successful human treatments. That's why the big bad drug companies are putting more of their immoral profits into adult stem cell research - cuz it works!
And President Bush does not need to take a poll of the Christian right to decide the best and right course of action to take. If that were the case, wouldn't we have already come home like cowards from Iraq?

There is a Christian left, but left and right division is mainly based on social justice and economic issues, but you don't hear much about it because any alternative to corporate capitalism and plutocracy is prevented from getting public exposure...after all the rich must get richer! I think issues dealing with gay marriage, and abortion, etc. shouldn't be lumped with "just economy" issues, that is, distribution of wealth, fair and progressive taxation, environmental regulations, shift from the bottom line to accommodating humanity in policies, etc. By the way, there's been some good work on what's called theology of liberation by people like father Guttierez, etc., but Vatican hasn't been encouraging these efforts.

I believe only stem cell research funding which involves fetal cells has been blocked.
There IS a Christian left. See World Council of Churches.

I think there are a lot of Christians who are left winged. They care about the environment, and about the rights of men and about wealth divided more equally. The problem is the politics in the US, I'd say. From a Dutch point of view even the Democrats are conservatives to the core. Even our most right winged parties (and we have more than only two who get serious seats and attention in politics) would be considered left wing in the US, I'm afraid. It's the problem of the voting system, I'd say. Essentially there are only two parties in the US that can get serious stuff done, and they both are veeery careful not to upset the powers that be in your country.
But if you take the bible seriously, well, you should be left winged to extremes. Take care of the poor, protect nature and animals, protect people who can't take care of themselves. Those are all left winged positions to take.

Republican Mom is correct, Bush is for stem cell research. Bush isn't really a Christian conservative, he just plays one on television. David Kuo has proven that Bush doesn't really care much for "values". Actually, Bush's behavior has demonstrated that he doesn't really care about values, or a "culture of life". He sure does enjoy a good culture of corruption, though.

Yes. The Christian left the room due to a lack of informed questions or answers being put forth by those with no foundation of belief.
