They are almost purely in the drain pipes. Put a small amount of insecticide in the darin trap (just pout in the sink drain) every night before bed. Include drains in the basement floor and sump. The bugs crawl out at nigh and have to crawl through it and die. Do it fo a few weeks every nite and again if they show up..

The Scoop on Silverfish

My ground-floor apartment is overrun with silverfish. What can I do to get rid of them and yet be sure that my cat doesn't get sick?
-- Connie Raymond, Kingston, Ontario

These wingless insects live in warm, damp places, particularly basements, and can enter homes by crawling through cracks in floors and walls, or along pipes. They eat materials that contain high quantities of starch -- flour and cereals -- and paper products that have been glued, such as wallpaper, books, and magazines. They also consume synthetic fabrics and starched clothing.

To exterminate silverfish in a house with a pet, dust the infested area with pyrethrum powder, which contains natural chemicals -- pyrethrins -- and is one of the safest insecticides available (found at hardware stores). In a home without pets or children, use boric acid or a commercial insecticide. Apply to window and door frames, along baseboards, and around bookshelves.

To prevent a silverfish invasion, keep basement areas dry by repairing leaky plumbing and installing good ventilation. Throw out old books, magazines, and papers, which can be breeding grounds. Store food and valuable papers in tightly sealed containers.

I agree with Torskie. They come up from your drains. They are difficult to get rid of, but with daily insecticide down the drains, in a few weeks they should be all gone. The only other thing I can think of is calling a pest control company, and have them come and do a treatment for about $75.00.

They are very difficult to get rid of. You will probably need terminix or some other company, thats what I had to do. It cost me $150 but it worked. Haven't seen one since!
