Hi there,

Horses can be very wary if not told or shown that things are not as scary as they seem. MY TBxID was very wary of flapping bags, strange bits of paper on the ground and beleive it or not, tractor tracs in the mud. It took alot of time and patience but you need to show your horse that these things wont hurt it. There is some good advice been given here and you should mayby try some of them.

When i was out on the roads with my horse, and i saw something that he may potentially spook at, i would keep confident (they feel your confidence and trust they also feel your fear), talk to him in a kind and soothing voice, tell him he is a 'clever boy', and if he wanted to i would let him sniff at it, look at it from all angles and take his time going past it, still saying he was a clever boy. If i was in danger of a car passing i would hold back until the road was clear, just incase he got to spooked and jumped into the road. Never put you or your horse at risk on the open roads, always make sure the raod is clear before you attempt to pass what ever it may be he is spooking at, or something you may think he will spook at. A slow wide birth is always good to if he is to scraed to pass closely.

It does take time but she will get there with plenty of patience and love. The horse will learn to trust you and your daughter and will be your forever friend.

Oh i and i forgot, try not to let your horse turn away from the spook as this will make her think that it is ok to do this, they will try it everytime lol blinkers are good to, i used these on my horse as they were very wary of traffic - a blinker bridle may be a good purchase.

I hope she finds her confidence soon for you, good luck x

My horse is a bit like that spooks at a leaf falling a mile away! Patience, plenty of new sights, sounds etc in the safety and comfort of her own field until she's comfortable with them then try same in different environments. Blinkers can help but don't really address the problem. Also sometimes Weshies can 'try it on' so beware of her just taking the mickey out of you. Good luck.

she might be scared, of waving grass, or a car going by on the road. it could really be anything. i don't have a pony. but i do have a horse that spooks a lot. you could try leading her past some flapping bags. while leading another horse or pony in front of her. then maybe she would realizes that there's nothing to be scared of.
wishing you the best of luck with Flossy.

The Welsh breed is sectioned, with A and B being stated as ponies. A Welsh Cob section C is a cob 13.1hh or taller, on a similar time as final quite a few the wonderful-boned attributes of its smaller pony kinfolk. section D Cobs are additionally 13.1hh or taller yet are rather heavier in build and could attain 15hh, on a similar time as section C cobs tend to no longer exceed 14hh.

Your best bet , take her out with a confident horse!
I had an arab mare that was green and scared of EVERYTHING!
have been taking her out on trails with my old horse , who is scared of nothing & now 4 months later shes as good as gold! goes through water doesnt spook at dogs , cars ect:

Then ventur out further ( with exsperianced rider only) take her to gymkanas - pony club ... get her out there amongst the scary stuff , and she will soon relise its ok , its not gonna eat her!

I used to take my yearling filly up to the pony club every weekend so she got used to all the horses running around and the noise and she is probably my bravest horse now!

hope this helps you.

take her in to a enclosed field, ring, school ect... and then just get brightly coloured clothes, metal bars and signs are always a good one, and just show them to her. if she spooks then just let her run off. then get her back again, and soon she will learn that they are nothing bad. do this many times with lots of different things and then start to RIDE her through an obsacle course of them. when she has calmed down around all these things then let your daughter ride her. DO NOT GET ANGRY WITH HER IF SHE GETS SILLY!
only go out on hacks with a lead rein attached to the bridle and someone to lead her.
hope it works. good luck!

take her to a pro trainer....if that doesnt work then spend lots of free time with her...recognize the things that spook her and make them happen while you are with her (not riding her though because thats too dangerous) everytime she gets spooked soothe her, let her know you are there, once she gets a little better have your 10yr old with you, let her soothe the pony...it enables trust and lessens spooking

Well it seems to me that you guys dont have much experience. I own 3 horses that werent wanted, as they were wild, and i got them when they were just under 2. I trained them broke them and everything else, they love me to dealth and i dont disipline them. They will fallow me if they have a wide open space. I can go along the beach and they will fallow me. :o)

IMHO a horse isn't trained until its been Lyonized.

I've trained a lot of horses using John's methods. They're safe and effective and anyone can do it. I trained others to do it also.
