It depends on how recent the lower paying was in relation to the present. If it was a few years ago, I think the reference would still be relevant. If it were five years or more, probably not. Whether it is low paying or not is irrelevant, because the potential employer wants to see if you are responsible, hard-working, and a good fit for the company. These qualities are important in any organization whether it is working at a lower paying job or a higher paying job. Just make sure your references know they might be called and they will give you praise. This is vitally more important than how much you were paid.
Best of luck!

depends
pretty much anyone can get those lower-paying jobs, and most often when people get them, it's by obligation (need the money) rather than by choice.
still, if the lower-paying jobs you're talking about involved some kind of skills, entrepreneurship, this may have value later in showing your energy and spirit, particularly if you're targeting jobs that require those qualities (sales, entrepreneuship, etc.).
but if you've been a hamburger flipper for a couple months, or have delivered newspapers, or any of that low-skilled stuff that most everyone does (who has to), i'm afraid it won't help much, if at all.
whereas, in some cases, some higher-end activity, even if not paid at all (say, voluntary work for some NGO), can be more original, and say more good things about you.
hope this helps a bit

Anyh good referance is applicable to any job. If I am hireing a new secretary, and she has been an Exotic Dancer,Coal Miner,Day Labor, all these things are usefull, in some way. They demonstrate to the employer that you are at least versatile and can transition if needed. A flexible worker is better than one that cannot or does not accept change, becuase change happens.

Yes! This shows the employer that you have a strong work history and also strive to be better. All employers know that you have to start somewhere and this allows them to see that.
