I asked this question prior but I neglected to mention that my ex is now retired from the military. My ex and I have been separated many years (15+), but never legally divorced (or legally separated for that matter). .Left me with no warning or provocation. Came home from work and found most of the furniture taken and no good bye note, nothing. Ruined what credit I did have trying to pay for home alone and living expenses alone on a meager income. How do I find out what benefits I am, if any, entitled too and who should I contact to get more information?? When i was abandoned, we lived in Virginia. At first, I just wanted closure, but now, I could use whatever help I can get. Never received nor asked for a dime but managed to get back on my feet alone.

If you had legally divorced way back then when that happened, you could have gotten 1/2 of his retirement.

Now though, 15+ years later, it's highly unlikely you'll get any of his retirement since you've survived so long without it. It would be viewed as simply greed, and any halfwitted attorney he got could get a request like that thrown out of the divorce agreement.

too complex an issue to resolve here...need to find an attorney conversant with divorce as it relates to the military, or for that matter support issues since you never got divorced. I think you got a lot coming.

None of this "move on" crap that people are telling you. Most likely you ARE entitled to some of his retirement.

-give me a timeline, when married, when did he enter service/retire, when did he leave you.

-What grade did he retire as?

-Do you have any children with him?

Do you know were he resides now?

-Any contact at all with him?

-Do you still maintain a DoD ID card?

hmmm. this is a tough one.
what you should do is stop living in 1991 and move on - just like he did that on that sad day in Virginia.

Its been 15 years get over it and stop trying to leech off his pension.
