I asked this question previously and got particularly poor answers.

I am not saying a person is or is not anti-American whatever they oppose or do not oppose; I am asking a question. Please don't jump to conclusions about my perspective.

I am asking if you are opposed and appauled by the continued presence of the U.S. military in Iraq--the continued military operations carried out by U.S. forces that raid whole villages and kill civilians all in the good name of stopping "insurgents"--does that ipso facto prove you are an "anti-American" ?

Yes or no -- and WHY ?

OMG! Beliver: "military is the foundation of any country..." WHAT?

The MILITARY is only the "foundation" of a FASCIST government! Ever heard of Switzerland (no army)? Ever heard of countries in the South Pacific like Samoa? Unbelievable!

If you oppose the military in general, yes it does make you anti-American as military is the solid foundation of any country, whether you like it or not. If you're against the WAR in Iraq, no, you're not Anti-American. you're just misinformed. that answer your question? SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

An excellent rational question.Unfortunately many will brand you as anti american.I do not. Why?
1)the war in Iraq is an illegal war
2)if there was no oil in that part of the world, would America be there. No
3)estimated Iraqi casualties 200,000 plus.(Cheneys speech from bohemian grove )That is amazing and nothing seems to be solved yet so there is more coming
4)no weapons of mass destruction have been found. The joint chiefs dont expect to find any. They admit that their intelligence was faulty
The problem now is that a civil war is happenning between the Sunnis and Shiites. It isnt a possibility it is ongoing. The U.S. is now in the unenviable position of fighting a war it cannot ever win .And yet it cant leave or things will get much worse before they get better.
For those who differ with this opinion, lets look at vietnam.Similar in the sense that a conventional field army was fighting a geurilla presence. The U.S got driven out.If the US Hadnt had been there in the first place, the correct political climate for the Khmer rouge to asssert power in Cambodia would never have existed. The KR RULED FOR 4 YEARS KILLING 2 million of its own citizens before they were ousted by the Vietnamese.
I am against it but now it is an irrevocable commitment with practical and moral implications.(yes moral,in god we trust ,remember)
You are not anti american

Absolutely not. There are a lot of countries in this world that would not tolerate such dissention - the United States isn't one of them - let's try and keep it that way.

I personally believe the continued presence of U.S. troops in iraq is necessary until the newly formed Iraqi government is ready and stable enough to secure and protect the people from the radical elements that oppose the peoples right to have the government answer to them, rather than the other way around.
That is only my opinion based on the murder and maiming of thousands of innocent men, women and children carried out by the tactics of the Islamic radicals in the name of a demented ideology.

Make no mistake - we will fight these radicals sooner or later - their demand is quite clear:
You will convert to Islam - or you will die.
They have, for all intents and purposes, already defeated Spain, and France isn't far behind.
I don't like either of their options, and I suspect that you don't either.

If one feels that the war in Iraq is not the correct policy, rather than critisize and cherry pick all of our failures without any regard to the humanitarian efforts and positive aspects of the war, than I believe this is un-American.
I would expect that Americans dissatisfied with the war effort would suggest new proposals, new strategies and objectives or, perhaps, a completely different course of action rather than just bash our current policies.

I have to believe that a lot of the opposition comes from people that don't fully realize that we have been at war with these radical Islamics since 1979 - a one sided war because we have totally failed to properly respond to their murder and terror against Americans all over the world. These attacks on our civilians and military personnel were not "criminal" acts, these were acts of war.

And, most importantly, if the Islamic radicals are to realize any type of perceived victory (cut and run, early withdrawal, divided effort, etc....) they will inevitably continue their tactics of terror and murder - and why not? - if they're apparently successful.

Positive and constructive ideas - even if it means an entirely different strategy in the war on terror - that's American.

Rhetoric, continuously stressing only our apparent failures, distorting the facts, representing conclusions and opinions as facts and generally demeaning our great nation is simply un-American, period.

What a great question!!!

No, opposition to a "war" that unites the world in anger against us makes you pro-American. The war has strongly damaged the USA in several ways. It has destroyed the budget. It has wiped out the armed forces (people are not enlisting much anymore AND the equipment is now old and damaged). The world not only disrespects us, but fears us and believes we are bent on dominating the planet.

For all these reasons, and many more, opposing Bush's War makes you a great American patriot.

Not necessarily. But I believe many who claim to be against our military have a double standard - for them, it was less bad when a Democrat president (namely Clinton) engaged in military adventures. (bombing Iraq and Afghanistan, and the war in Kosovo, for example)

Truth be told, very few "civilians" are killed in Iraq. The ones killed are engaging in terror activity.

Also, what is this "raid whole villages" thing? Our military is trying to root out terrorists. (From "towns" incidentally - why do you call them "villages"? I sense a bit of racism there).

I am in favor of continued US military presence in Iraq. Iraq is striving for true democracy, and it is essential that we remain there until the place is stable.

Love Jack

no, battles and wars will always be bad for peoples of either side of conflict---what does all the power gain...some more greed for more power/control...vicious! this is not helping to ' protect from terrorism ', as it creates a terror in families all over the world. am disappointed how America's values have slipped into a cesspool, but it doesn't mean i'm anti-American

First let me tell you that I do not oppose American presence in Irak. In fact I'll say that they are doing a great job and we have to be thankful to them.

BUT I do not think that one is anti-American if he opposes US military in Iraq. In fact I see him very pro-American. He is free to protest against his government etc...

Have you seen any muslim protest against Terrorism and Islamic barbarism? How many were they to protest against some cartoons?

It is because you are an American that you are allowed to oppose the U.S. involvement in Iraq. You are definitely not anti-American. My own view is that we never should have invaded in the first place, we have no clear mission there now, and if we pull out before we have some sort of permanent "peace" (define peace however you want) then all of our soldiers died in vain.

No, it shows you care about the direction this country has taken since George Bush took office. Nobody should like the downhill ride that we have taken.

I think that it does not make you anti-American. but when you only talk about the US Forces that are killing civilians and whole villages... I also believe that you should look at what they have done to our troops. The enemy so to speak, have decapitated our troops and other American people on National television. But yet all you bring up is what we have done to them.... I think that is anti american.
