In single iDE Channel two IDE Devices will work.

On One Single IDE channel maximum of 2 devices can be attached one will become primary IDE device and second one will be called secondry IDE.
However if u using 64 bit IDe slot then u can install 4 on that.

on one ide channel 2 devices can work,
combinations can be as follows
1) 2----> hdds
2) 2----> (cdroms/ dvroms/ cdwriters/ dvdroms)
3) 1----> hdd and 1---> (cdrom/dvdrom/cd writer/dvdwriter).

- 2 HDD's as M&S.
-HDD & cd/dvd-ram/rom device.
-2 cd/dvd-ram/rom devices if u have sata HDD.
