In 1998 my wife brought home this paper that had several things about missing work in it 1 if you are going to die give us 2 week notice. A well known company just sent down new rules on missing work 1 of them was no Dr. excuse will be accepted anymore 2 if you have a loved one in the hospital you are to be at work 3 it has to be a state of emergency for you to miss work for bad storms of any kind, twister, flood,ice,snow,...if you have the flu come to work or you can get fired

That's in direct violation of the Family and Medical Leave Act. See link below.

Sounds like a job from Hell! Who would ever want to work there? Are you sure it's not a joke? Seems I've seen that somewhere before, and while it could be an exaggeration, there are some employers who put the job ahead of the needs of their employees. Hopefully, your wife doesn't work there any more.

While there may be some folks who abuse the sick leave time, employers should be aware of family crises, illness, deaths in the family, weather conditions, car trouble -- all the things that happen to human beings, and show a little understanding and compassion. I think a good reaction to the last "rule" about coming to work with the flu -- Go directly to the boss's office and throw up on his desk! What the hay? You'll get fired either way!

Yeah, that's completely illegal. Not to mention just plain ridiculous. Who wants to work with someone who is spreading the flu virus left and right? Or even a cold for that matter.

We Bostonians miss work for winter storms every year. No employer should put people in danger by demanding they come to work under unsafe driving conditions.

Your wife seriously needs a new job with a REAL company. And I agree with the poster who suggested contacting a news reporter. Those rules are completely out of hand.

Wow, I am glad I m retired. I know one thing that was not a state or federal place of employment. They get every other day plus sick leave. If you need something done, they are either closed for a holiday or the person you need to talk to is out sick.
