two reasons the first would be is that when black folks are being sarcastic and you are some sort of boss at work they use this term for saying anything you say your the captain you know you run the ship.
the second is if you are the boss or supervisor your employee is making sure you realize he is a team player and calls you captain because your probably cool as hell to work for. oh yeah! AND IF YOUR DATING SOMEONE AT WORK AND THEY ARE NOT DOING TO WELL FINANCIALLY THEY WOULD USE CAPTIAN SHORT FOR CAPTIAN SAVE A HOE!

everyone else is wrong....captain is short for "captain save a hoe"
might sound weird but its true. means that you are the nice guy that does whatever a girl wants so you can try and swoop in. basically you play that role to try and look good to the girl and make another guy look bad. in other words, you're the shoulder she cries on after getting used by another guy. its not a compliment, kinda means you're a sucker
