why is it that for abdominals to show that men have to get around 8% body fat where as women need to have about 14%

I know women have an extra layer of fat natually but why should that matter in terms of abdominals showing through.

Wouldn't that make it even harder you think?

I would expect because of the extra layer that women would need more like 6% body fat..

what is going on.. can someone answer, I'm curious

Women naturally have more body fat for a reason. It makes the process of pregnancy possible. If we didn't have the extra fat then being pregnant would cause more complications for us. Therefore since we naturally have more body fat then it's only fair to up the percentage that is considered normal. Men don't need the added fat because they don't turn into a hotel for nine months so they have no excuse for their bodies to store it up. We can't control the fact that our bodies are naturally going to convert more calories to fat than a man's. It's just the way it is.
