I need a second job and figured waitressing was the way to go, I'm 23, never have done it before, and was wondering how the tips were at a place like AppleBee's or Red Lobster and how hard is it really?

Being a server can make you some good money, but don't expect it to be easy. Especially if you have never done it before.
It will depend a lot on the business you work at, some are more supportive than others in the way of having the floor staffed properly for peak hours.
The best advice I would have for you is to stay organized and be positive, mentally.
Good Luck.

I've worked at Applebees and the tips were OK, but if you really want to make some money (without "turn and burn") you should get a job at a fine dining restaurant that has a nice wine list. Selling a bottle of Caymus will put $50 in your pocket a lot faster than burning out five tables of Mom and Dad and the kids!

I've worked for independently owned restaurants, but higher up than mom and pops. Tips are great, especially the dinner hour since people drink more and are looser with their money. Lunch hours suck more because you'll get a bunch of change for a tip. Be prepared to sweat while running around, get your shoes from Wal-Mart, they have great shoes for people on their feet.

And enjoy the people. Treat them like you'd like to be treated if you were dining out. It's not easy, but not hard either. I've met funny and interesting people over the years. Go for it!

i'm a server, were for 5 years (extreme college or perhaps as i'm at present in college) and likely, there are days even as i'm decrease than extremely joyful about going into artwork, yet all in all, that is not that undesirable. The time is going my quick cuz you're on your ft. you have become workout, interacting with human beings, and also you get to go away with money each and every evening. no want to look ahead to a paycheck; short on money, visit artwork. Us servers ought to understand that lower priced education contain the territory. no count number how might want to of a job you do for some human beings, they'll tip 10%. yet there are quite some large tippers accessible, and in a lot of situations all of us wreck even. if you're quite unhappy such as your activity, my in basic terms genuine suggestion i visit provide is to both locate yet another field of work, or perhaps seem for a job at a distinct eating position. often times a replace of scenary does wonders. i do not plan on leaving my activity till i'm getting my bachelor's degree in nursing, yet there are diverse places to artwork in case you don't love the eating position market. Banks employ tellers starting up at $10/hr in a lot of situations, you are able to also attempt retail, or stumble on a receptionist/secretary type activity. good luck!

Being a server is not hard. It's stressful. If you can multi task, then you shouldn't have a problem. Tips at a corporate restaurant tend to be a bit higher than they would be at a Mom and Pop place. Good luck in your new job, and be sure to keep comfortable shoes at hand. :)

go to the higher priced places. 15% of 100 is more than 15% of 20. Same work just higher pay

i waitressed my way through college. there are definately pros and cons - but its worth it. make sure you get a manager who is aware of your schedule and willing to work around it to avoid problems down the road. tips are good - and its nice to have them everytime u work - but be sure that you can deal with people who are just jerks... you have to just smile and take it... and make whatever it is thats wrong, right. its worth it... :)
