In the wild, box turtles eat 75% insects, bugs, worms, snails, carrion, etc. The other 25% is a mix of fallen fruits, berries, forage/grasses, fungi, flowers, etc.
In captivity, the key is variation. Try this:
50% proteins- mostly from insects (NOT mealworms!), worms, low-oil fish, cooked low-fat chicken, organ meats, etc. You can use low-fat good quality canned or kibble dog food for part of the mix if necessary (soak kibble before use).
30% vegetables and mushrooms, as colorful and fresh (or frozen/thawed) as possible. Steam or microwave hard veggies if necessary. Add any flowers or yard plants the turtle likes here as well.
10% fruits. If you like it, the turtle will- except citrus.
10% dark, leafy greens.
Sprinkle of reptile vitamins and reptile calcium supplement
Amount: I go with about 1/4 cup per adult, fed every other day or so. Young turtles get less more often.
I also remove foods as they start to go bad.

Hello ~ Dietary requirements differ with the age of your Box Turtle. The diet should include a higher vegetable content with adult animals and more animal protein for younger individuals (Vegetable and Animal diet should be offered to both however).
Stay away from Broccoli, Cauliflower, kale, lettuce (lettuce has no vitamin benefit at all and should never be used), cabbage etc. stick to fresh fruit, mushrooms, collard and dandelion greens. Provide whole animals (i.e., mice) these can be purchased frozen, just thaw them before offering them. Also, Earthworms, Beetles and other Invertebrates may be offered.
For many photos of Box Turtles doing what they do best (eating, Breeding and hanging out) check out the photo gallery on my website. These photos will give you a good idea of how to keep your Box Turtles home.
Box Turtles are hunters and scavengers in nature they are often found feeding on carrion (dead things) on the side of the road.
There are two species (and several sub-species in North America). You should be sure you know what species you are keeping, so that you can give it the proper captive care. Thanks, Leo

You shouldn't feed him too often, every two or three days is fine.
Box turtles will eat most any raw vegetables, also they like earthworms and crickets (mine loves the big black ones - I crush the crickets' heads so they don't run).
Don't feed him cooked food, he'll get addicted to things like steamed broccoli or KFC - raw food is what he's designed to eat.
And don't feed him turtle pellets - those things really aren't that great. Fresh food is better.

You can use most any fresh fruit or vegetable. Worms make a nice treat on occasions. I even used ground meat (raw) at one time.
Good rule of thumb with the fruits or veggies, pull them after 24 hours or when it looks pretty wilted- WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.
During the warmer months, we had good luck with three times a week. As it got cooler, we dropped to about 1 time a week.

Lettuce and strawberries were what I fed the one I looked after. She liked to eat the green bits off the tops of strawberries.

box turtles need protein-an all veg and fruit diet is deficient, and if thats all u feed him,he'll eventually die !!!!he needs worms and slugs!go to a bait shop,or dig them urself.still give fruits and veg,but give worms and slugs too.be aware that indoor hibernation, because of indoor heating, messes with a box turtles metabolism and can lead to death !heat his environment and keep him awake !!!also,be aware keeping box turtles is illegal in most us states.
