Because unfortunately they consider American Football to be football and have adopted soccer as their word for the beautiful game. Despite the fact that the origins of football in the UK pre-date the existance of their developed nation.

However, having said that, why not, Americans are a great, proud nation and its one of their national sports. They should be proud of it.

It was derived from the term 'aSSOCiation football'. It makes sense. I wish we called it football though. On here I feel out of place calling it soccer, and in public I feel out of place calling it football. I just wish we called it football. it'd be so much easier.
