Well, the thing is: psychopaths and sociopaths (the terms are used inter-changeably) don't THINK they are acting amorally. I prefer the term sociopath. They can be witting, charming, even intelligent people. (look at Ted Bundy.) But where the glitch in their thinking comes in is that they believe rules were made for someone else, not them. The truly feel they are above and beyond the constricts of society. They can usually tell you the difference between right and wrong. If YOU did something wrong, they could tell you. And would! But when it comes to them, they have it all justifued in their mind as to why they are innocent.
There is still controversy over whether this is caused by a glitch in their brain's wiring or if it is do to their upbringing. (the old nature vs. nurture controversy.)
Email me if you want any more info. I'm a grad student in psych and criminal behavior is my field of emphasis.

Most psychopaths, because of their mental illness, act immorally but not necessarily amorally. It's like Hitler. He was, clearly, an evil evil man and acted in a highly immoral fashion. But he did possess a moral code- a twisted and dubious moral code, certainly, but he was not entirely without morals- which is the definition of amoral. He painted and liked dogs and was a vegetarian. Immoral, yes. Psychopath, certainly. Amoral means you have no concept of the system of morality.

It seems such as you're questioning approximately Sociopaths. Sociopaths tend to be especially narcissistic, meaning that they view themselves as being greater suitable to others. Sociopaths tend to take it added via questioning that persons no longer so good as them might besides no longer additionally be a similar species. you come across a super form of serial killers usually view themselves as having some innate perfect to kill their victims, as though they have been searching game. i'm particular a super form of them do think of relating to the ends up of their movements, despite the fact that they sense so above each and every physique, that they do no longer probable savor it. they're going to consistently be greater suitable to others regardless of in the event that they're in penitentiary.
