They can act in ways that will make them die. A friend of mine that has only one horse has a pasture that touches another person's pasture. The other person had several horses, but moved all of them suddenly. Later that evening the filly ran through the barbed wire fence looking for them and had to have lots of stitches after she was finally caught. It could have been a lot worse though, barbed wire shouldn't be used with horses, -period-...but it's an example.

Yes...just like with any animal (human included).
We used to keep a small radio tuned to a classical station in the barn with the horses. (we worked with previously abused/neglected animals) That way, they could hear a human voice and didn't get so down. The classical music also calms them.
We also had a few barn cats that kept the horses company. Even an australian sheperd dog for a while.

I BELIEVE IT IS POSSIBLE. JUST LIKE HUMANS, ANIMALS NEED TO BE AROUND THEIR OWN KIND. SEVERAL YEARS AGO, WE HAD A HORSE, AND HE WAS THE ONLY HORSE WE HAD. ANYWAY, WE BEGAN TO NOTICE HE WOULD BE LOOKING OFF INTO THE DISTANCE, ACROSS THE FIELD WHERE HE COULD HEAR OTHER HORSES, AND WE COULD ACTUALLY SEE A TEAR IN HIS EYE. THIS HAPPENED EVERY DAY FOR QUITE SOME TIME. WE DECIDED TO BUY ANOTHER HORSE TO KEEP HIM COMPANY. NO MORE STARING, NO MORE TEAR IN IS EYE. SO I DO BELIEVE A HORSE CAN DIE FROM LONELINESS.

No, but they can die if their owners try to coerce them into doing stuff they don't wanna do, case in point the guy in my state of Washington who was having 'relations' with his horse and the horse crushed him oh wait your question was can horses die out of loneliness? I thought you said something else, sorry.

yes they can. They stop eating and get depressed. Usually only happens when the horse is used to being around other animals or after they lose a foal.

I dont think thay can die out of lonliness. They would like a companion, but most of the time a loving owner can easly be one.

PS. It could happen but there should be no need for it.

well it is not actually the loneliness that kills them....they are a very social animal and there is a strong bonding instinct.....they tend to live longer and healthier when they have a companion....but to say loneliness kills them is not really correct....i have seen horses get depressed when they are seperated.....
