Wet the spot and saturate it with baking soda, allow to dry and vacume it up. That should eliminate the odor

If the smell is still there, there has to be a reason, so I would suspect that there is liquid that has soaked into the padding below the carpet. You can rent one of the higher vacuum steam cleaners, and go over the area thoroughly - while you're at it, clean the whole thing. When it is dry, sprinkle some carpet fresh and allow to sit. Finish by dry vacuuming the carpet fresh. If that doesn't take care of the odor, you will need to take the carpet up and replace the pad in that area. Must have been some real nasty vomit - I have never had problems cleaning up after my kids who got sick. If the vomit had a high concentration of alcohol, the odor will be worse, and will be much more difficult to deal with.

Two step treatment.

1) Use a product made by Fresh Products called Supersorb. It is a white powder substance that when sprinkled on any liquid or fluid will absorb the offensive fluid and turn it into a gel. Then you can just vacuum it off the carpet or sweep it off the floor.

2) I carry a product called LNZ36. It is an enzyme product that is used for carpet stains and pet odors, also used in septic tanks, grease traps, drains, restrooms and many other area's. A synergestic blend of bacteria that kills the odor causing bacteria such as vomitus at the root cause. Great for protein based products, hair, food grease, feces, urine, blood, or anything that is biological in nature.
Chemical products such as Di-limonenene based priducts are necessary for petroleum based stains oil, grease, tar, etc.

I have had great success with a chemical called Smells Be Gone. This is manufactured by a company named Punati. They also have many other items such as Odor Absorbers. The Smells Be Gone I actually found at Meijer and it can be used on just about anything. It takes out cat urine odor, so it works really really well. I've even put some in my wash to get certain odors out of clothes. Try it, I guarantee it'll become one of your favorite household items!!

A wet soapy rag with Pinesol on it usually works. You probably got the carpet pad wet and it will take a while to dry out. Afteryou clean it again, try placing a fan on the wet area or a hair dryer on just the wam setting.

Have you tried vinegar?

If that doesn't work, it may have soaked all the way through the padding and so need to be replaced.

Good luck!
