I think the majority of actual evidence shows that Lee Harvey Oswald killed him. Of course, I won't speculate on whether or not he was acting of his own free will or if he'd been paid or otherwise "encouraged" to do it by the CIA, Castro, whoever.... There's even a school of thought that thinks Jack Ruby (Oswald's killer) did it, or had a hand in it. Supposedly, Jack Ruby was overcome when he heard Kennedy had been killed, and he came to the police dept. to wait to see Kennedy's killer - he was on a first name basis with the law enforcement in the area - and when Oswald was paraded through, he couldn't help himself and lunged out and shot him. However, Jack Ruby wasn't, shall we say, an upstanding pillar of the community, and there are other people that think he may have been behind the Kennedy assassination, then killed the one person who could rat him out - Lee Harvey Oswald - before Oswald got a chance to tell all he knew.
There are no shortage of conspiracy theorists out there, but among them, the number one "Oswald didn't do it" claim has to do with a supposed third shot from the grassy knoll. One motercycle cop said there was one shot for which they never recovered a bullet. The idea was that there was Oswald up in the Texas Schoolbook Conservatory, and he shot, but there was an unknown man against the fence at the back of the grassy knoll, and he shot once (it just occurred to me that I don't know if it was a total of two shots or a total of three shots. either way, this theory includes one more shot than the evidence showed happened)
The History Channel had a really interesting documentary about this. Over a step-by-step discovery process, they found people who shot still or moving pictures of the procession, and all but about 1 1/2 seconds during the time Kennedy was driving along the square is covered. With those pictures, IF there was a mysterious shooter from the fence, he or she was one incredibly lucky person. There were several pictures that SHOULD have given a clear shot of the fence, but back in the '60's, not having the right film or whatever kept the photographers from being able to get a clear shot of the fence due to shadows or poor focusing. After putting all the videos/pictures together, they played around with different cameras and stuff to see if they could put a man about where the supposed grassy knoll shot came from and see if they could make him not show up in the same pictures, and the closest they got was to see his shadow, but there were no shadows in the original. I think the documentary showed pretty convincing evidence that there was only the one shooter.
I have an uncle who works on sets for movies, and he worked on JFK (movie with Kevin Costner). To build/recreate sets, he had to watch every photo and video known to exist of that day, and I remember he told me that while working on that movie, he came to believe Oswald didn't do it. At the time, I was too young to know what he was talking about, so I didn't ask, and he didn't tell, who he thought did it, or if he even had any idea.
It's one of America's greatest conspiracy theories. And now, everyone who would have known for sure is most likely dead.

More and more conspiracy nuts are thinking that Jackie had him killed.
She was mad because of Marilyn Monroe and all of his other women.
And she wanted him out of the way so she could marry her rich boy friend: the Greek.
