Lay on your bed and get someone to throw six buckets of water on your blanket you will then know what it means.
It could mean a spoil sport. The blanket is no longer confortable or warm. The water ruined it.

Throwing a wet blanket on flames is a time-honoured quick way of extinguishing them. Thus, a person who can come into a room full of "hot action," and turn it all off with her or his very presence, is mimicking the function of a wet blanket.

a wet blanket (informal)
someone who does or says something that stops other people from enjoying themselves.
In context....
" I don't want to be a wet blanket, but you really must play your music more quietly or you'll disturb the people next door. "

it is a person who kinda just lies there just does not do anything... for example lets say you went out on a date and he just sucked!! boring, does not speak much, not very exciting. next mornng you are telling your friends you could just say that your date (the person) was a wet blanket
