Ignition:
plugs, leads, dis cap, ignitor / elec ignition (I am not sure which yours has), capacitor / coil(s)

Compression:
Lack of due to: cracked head, cracked block, loose plugs, holed pistons, rings wrecked

Air/Fuel
Not a combustible mix (too little or too much fuel = no go)

If you have compression AND a good air/fuel ratio AND a good spark all at the same time (timing!) then you will fire the cylinder.

Specifically for your car, is this a recent thing that was intermittentn first, has it just started? did it fail while running and stop - or just not start THIS time. Anything happened to the car that you can think of to make it stop working?

Damp? Just refueled (bad fuel), funny noise (pump problem?),

It would help if you gave a little bit more info please:-

Stopped mid journey?
Working fine one moment then failed - or gradually got worse?
Anything happened (engine bay got wet?)
Fires a little - but not enough to keep going - or nowt?
Just refuelled (might have water in tank if garage tank empy)
Need fuel ??? ;)

The more we know, the more specific we can be in our suggestions - at the moment it could be anything from a blocked fuel filter to someone having stolen the engine!

It might be your timing. You didn't have very much info in your question.
Is it not firing up at all, or is it skipping?
