For some of the answers, let's be accurate, the Democrats do not have a problem with Foley's lifestyle, but rather his behavior, and the what seems like endless numbers of leaders in the Republican Party that apparently covered it up.
Second of all, let's be accurate about the Republicans position of Gay. Check the voting records, they are absolutly as a general rule of thumb, anti-gay, and anti-gay marriage.
As for Charlie Christ, this is just another gleaming example of Republican Hypocrasy that has come to be mainstream for these people.
To make matters worse, Charlie Christ won't take a firm position on any issue.
ex. He is against gay marriage, against gay adoption, but pro civil union.
He stated clearly in a campaign speech that he is pro-life, then in the debate with Jim Davis stated that he doesnt belive on infinging on a womens right to have an abortion in certain cases.
To add insult to injury if it is proven that he is gay, he will probably just say that he was drunk or molested by a priest.
The right wingers will probably still vote for him and justify their position by saying the Dems are making it all up.
Sad.

Contrary to your belief, it is not the Republicans who are intolerant of gays. When the Mark Foley scandal broke, it was the Democrats that were vilifying him and his lifestyle. Saying the Republicans should have known he was a pedophile since they knew he was gay. I thought homosexuals weren't automatically pedophiles - no wait, that's only if you want to be a Boy Scout Leader.
Yes there are deeply religious people, mostly on the right but some on the left and middle too, that believe homosexuality is a sin, an abomination, a disease. I do not happen to share that belief. I am a bit more Libertarian on the subject of gay lifestyles. I do however believe in protecting the sanctity of marriage as between one man and one woman. That does not make me a homophobe. I am tired of yet another small group of people, forcing their beliefs on the majority. And the latest New Jersey Supreme Court decision is another example of a small minority, imposing their beliefs on the majority. Let the citizens vote - isn't that what this country was founded on! Even a blue state like Washington voted in favor of preserving Marriage.

Rep's will excuse and minimize the behavior of anyone in their party, while carrying on like a hysterical nut about anyone in another party. My gosh, if Mark Foley was a Democrat, you'd never hear the end of it.

They'd probably vote for him just cause he's not a Democrat. Kinda like Bush and Foley; they voted for them even knowing what they were about.
