I just started using the birth control patch and I'm worried it will end up being bad for my skin. Having my skin stuck under this patch 24/7 can't be good, because it can't breathe. Do you know if these patches are breathable. Or feel free to tell me about any other experiences with the patch.

It won't hurt you, unless you have an allergic reaction. People have been getting medicines through patches for a long time and allergic reactions, usually to the adhesive, are the most common complaint with them. Just stick it in a slightly different spot whenever you put a new one on.

Some people can have a localized reaction or rash to the patch due to the medication. If this happens stop using it. You rotate sites each week when you apply it. I have used it for three years and never had any problems.

When I first started the patch, it didn't bother me. I would wear it on my stomach, shouldres, butt and upper arm. Then, I got to where I could't wear it on my butt or arm because of irritation. Then, in a few months I had to stop wearing it on my shoulders. When I wore it on my shoulders...about 9 months after starting the patch...it would itch really bad and leave a raised bumpy area for a month. So, then I only had one place left to wear it. On my stomach. It worked fine for a while, but had to switch to the pill b/c it actually left 2 scars on my stomach. I'm much happier on the pill!

i have to agree with the above person. nuva ring is great because it releases hormones at an even steady pace. i had terrible side effects (spotting for weeks to months at a time) with every other birth control, and have had no problems on the nuvaring. you only have to remeber to remove it, and put it back in 7 days later. once in, you leave it there for 21 days. the website also has a reminder that you can download.
