wrong with me just because I hate sports? Does that make me less of a man? I think that watching sports on TV is such a waste of time, and I refuse to pay to see a sporting event with these highly over paid players who won't even take the time to acknowledge their fans. I could get in free to see the Cubs play baseball, but it is so boring to sit there for more than two hours. Why are people so enraptured with sports? What's the big deal?

To all you "men" who think that not liking sports makes me gay, here's a quote from Chris for you to conider.

"BTW, my psych friend says those men who are most likely to call other men homosexuals because of not liking sports or other "masculine" activities are also the ones most likely to have latent homosexual tendancies."

Thank you so much Chris. In fact, I am very athletic. I enjoy hiking and mountain biking and I'm in a lot better shape than all those couch potatoes.

Sports, and taking an active interest in them, are just another form of hobby. Many people who don't like sports really just have another active hobby or two that they find more interesting. For many men, sports are an easy hobby to have - it doesn't really take more than enthusiasm to get involved by watching on TV. Those who like sports, but need some more intellectual challenge will often play fantasy leagues of their favorite sports.

I know a lot of guys who don't care for sports that much who are very athletic - mountain bikers, rock climbers, etc, who would rather be out pursuing their activity than watching TV.

I'd be willing to bet that you have other hobbies that you find more challenging and intellectually stimulating, and that's why sports bore you.

BTW, my psych friend says those men who are most likely to call other men homosexuals because of not liking sports or other "masculine" activities are also the ones most likely to have latent homosexual tendancies.

I hate watching baseball- too slow, (I'm a girl) but like to play,I am not to interested in football either- my husband feels the same way- and I don't think my motorcycle ridin (suzuki),go kart racin, ex-Marine would be considered unmasculine or that something is wrong with him for that! WE also get sick of the media looking and finding and shoving dirt down our throats all the time. Wouldn't it be nice just to have some good clean sports heroes? I'm sure there are MANY of them, I just wish they'd be highlighted more! My Hubby watches results many times, or a superbike race because thats his thing but not much else- there is nothing wrong with it, I actually think he kind of runs through the scores for football just to add to conversations at the "water cooler" you know....I think if you say you hate sports then it could cause a unec. discussion, rather than saying you are not "into" them is all- go your own way! I'm an artist and can whip out a 40 foot mural in a week- where's my press?! (HA)

You are the man a lot of women are looking for because you are sure to hold a woman as more important than the sports! My boyfriend isn't interested in sports either except of course the one we participate in: distance running! I am really thankful because I got tired of taking 2nd chair to any sport that was on tv with other boyfriends.
Don't worry about what other guys think!

In today's world; information can be overwhelming to the brain. Therefore, we as humans have learned to be selective as a filtering device. You have other interest and should never be lead to feel inferior or sub-male. It's interesting how many guys only see the world as sports, and haven't a clue on world relations, politics, economy, and or social issues that affect their community. Just as they have their priorities so do you. Rejoice in being your own person, that beats to a different drum. Celebrate life by not suffering from needless worries or doubts.

I have to concur with your assessment, Sam. Though I enjoy the occasional pickup game of basketball or touch football, watching other people play sports can seem like a lot of nothing to me. For a lot of people—especially those who want to accuse you of being a closet homosexual—I think watching other people play sports is a way of sublimating our own natural competetive desires. Thus the stereotype of the morbidly obese man eating Cheetos, drinking beer from the can, and getting worked up over the home team. I would much rather participate than watch; it satisfies my animal desire for competition, it's good for my health, and the emotional high lasts a lot longer after the game is over.

actually, I'm the same way. I really don't have any interest in it at all. I played sports when I was in school. But I would rather watch paint dry than watch sports on tv. Everyone just has their own interests.

Just because your a male that doesn't mean you have to be a sports fanatic. Trust me most woman would be glad to have a man that does not devote most of his free time to sports. That leaves more time for her. Guys will call you a Wus but do you really care what they think?

He hasn't, at least not me. He don't look like a black man, so most black males will not be able to relate to him in the aspect. Some may be inspired by his message, but I can't look at Obama and believe that is a black man. He is only half-black and I am getting tired of people trying to sell me the idea that he is a "black man."

I would have to agree that watching baseball is boring. And I can see your point that watching sports on TV can be a waste of time. I personally love watching Football, some basketball, and the fights on TV. But I would much rather be outside playing sports than watching them on TV.

Many men like sports because we are built with a prominent competitive gene. This pushes most of us men towards sports. The less athletically gifted men may like chess or cards. But all men need some kind of competitiveness in their lives. Otherwise they are not really men, just a woman in mens attire.
