I need to design a poster that looks like a front page of a tabloid newspaper, any ideas? Ive tried it on word but it looks tacky and unprofessional. Anything online I can use?

You probably want Adobe Illustrator for this one. Go to the link below and download a free trial. It's easy enough to use for text and you'll find the manual online too.

Stay away from Microsoft for design projects unless for business. They will ALWAYS look tacky and unproffessional, and instantly recognisable as Microsoft. The three words you need to know in Graphic Design are; Adobe, Macromedia & Quark. Make's life so much easier and aesthetically pleasing!!!!!!!!!!

If you're going to be doing this regularly but want a cheap programme to use then perhaps you could get Adobe Photoshop Elements, you can produce professional looking stuff easliy once you've got the basics. Try looking on ebay to get it cheaply.

Do you have a scanner with OCR? You could scan a real page and change the details. Use Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw, if MS Word doesn't work.

Try using Publisher instead of Word, perhaps you'll be able to get better results.
