That answer sucks, and it means that time will not tell because he didn't care about you enough to give a real answer. You can find someone better than that, there are plenty of fish in the sea.

If he can't accept you and your children, no matter what the age, I would reply with...
"you're not worth OUR time".
There are alot of men there who will accept you and your children as a whole, don't wait on (Mr. time will tell) or you will be in for a big heartache.

It means exactly what it is.
Time will tell.
Some things can only be worked out over time. It means you should be patient. If it is meant to be, over time, it will be. You can't make it happen now.
