me and my ex boyfreind split because his kids where older and moved out and i have small kids . I asked him if there was a chance we would ever get back together and all he said was time will tell what type of answer is that

It means he doesn't know the answer. Instead of saying yes or no he says time will tell.

That answer sucks, and it means that time will not tell because he didn't care about you enough to give a real answer. You can find someone better than that, there are plenty of fish in the sea.

"you're not worth OUR time".
There are alot of men there who will accept you and your children as a whole, don't wait on (Mr. time will tell) or you will be in for a big heartache.

Time will tell.
Some things can only be worked out over time. It means you should be patient. If it is meant to be, over time, it will be. You can't make it happen now.
