Amy applied for welfare.. foodstamp/medicaid on her first pregnancy two years ago... she was married back in 04 and left her husband after three months... he was put in prison. She had a child a year later by another guy and considered herself single.. she never changed her social or driverslicense because she was only with her husband three months. While on medicaid and foodstamps she didnt put married on her application. Can She get into trouble for not reporting she was married and put single instead. Now she is wanting to get help from legal aid to get the divorce and fears she will be in trouble when they find out she got a divorce. Please help me help her to understand.

It's called fraud. She lied to get better benefits, and it plainly states on all government applications what happens when you lie and sign your name to the lie. She tried to beat the system and is now between a rock and a hard place. She could easily go to jail if they found out, since it appears she would be incapable of paying back all the money she stole.

She sounds like a real winner: welfare, medicaid, food stamps, and now legal aid? Is she incapable of working? Oh, that's right, she's breeding instead. She only wants the divorce because she's afraid she's going to get caught, and wants free legal aid to help her.....jeez!!!!!

Why would you want to be friends with a loser like this?

I don't think she will get in trouble as one agency usually does not inform the other. He was in prison, therefore unable to support her or the baby, so she would be eligible for welfare anyway. I wouldn't worry about it, but talk to the lawyer anyway.

I think if she explains this to the legal aid lawyer, she will be alright. because of her husband being in prison! If he was not then she would get in trouble.

I DID THE EXACT SAME THING. I GOT MARRIED AND I DID NOT REPORT IT. WE WERE TOGETHER FOR A FEW YEARS. I DIVORCED HIM. I DID MY OWN DIVORCE. ALL SHE HAVE TO DO IS GO TO THE COURT AND FILL OUT THE FORMS. HAVE THEM SUBMITTED. THEY SET A COURT DATE IF THERE ARE CHILDREN INVOLVED. THEN THEY GO TO COURT. IT ALL WORKED OUT FOR MY GOOD. HE DID NOT SHOW UP IN COURT, SO THE JUDGE GAVE ME FULL CUSTODY OF MY CHILDREN. THE COUNTY HAS NOT ONCE SAID ANYTHING. THE ONLY WAY THEY FIND OUT THINGS, IS IF YOU TELL THEM THINGS. THEY DON'T KNOW NOTHING IF YOU DON'T TELL THEM NOTHING. I HAS ALWAYS CARRIED MY MAIDEN NAME. NEVER CHANGED MY IDENTITY BECAUSE IT IS TOO MUCH HASSLE TRYING TO CHANGE IT BACK. TELL HER TO JUST LEAVE IT ALONE. THIS HAPPENED TO ME BACK IN 1983 AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT SAID ANYTHING.
