There is no doubt about USA is an imperial power that used nuclear and chemical weapons to defeat its enemies. I don't think the US brutality comes from Christian teaching but Americans are Christian hypocrites who contradicts all biblical teaching. I must add that the latest Israel Invasion to Lebanon where Israel used banned weapons that came from American factories. I think USA & Israel are countries that should be considerd anti human life .

Invaders? Sure! Based on Christian values? No!

To simplify the answer and pigeon-hole it into something as simple as religion doesn't work. The United States has had an assortment of reason for invading other countries, making it appear to be some kind of latent crusades resurgence is giving our culture a little too much credit.

In the past 50 years we have obviously used our sword, but as a rule, it has been to save the oppressed by claiming we will free them. With out a doubt, there has always been an agenda for the U.S., but not always visible.

For example, the invasion of Iraq offers an excellent opportunity to explore and observe what is really going on with those oil rich and dictator run nations. And that is just a small example.

Does the United States predicate it's arrogance, opinion and insert it's beliefs based on Christian teaching? I think the way an individual politician votes may, in some cases, not all! The popular belief: They are motivated by money and power.

The USA is not the most "violent" in the context of brutality or number of people killed. One might point to the Germans in recent history, the French before that, the British imperialistic campaigns in the 18th and 19th centuries, the Romans, the Vikings, the Visigoths... the Mesopotamians... All brutal and lacking in any moral conscience.

The big difference? Everything we do got put on video.

And Christian or Muslim, hate is not bred by the religion as much as the selective interpretation of scripture by the devout.

If you are oriented towards hate, you're going to identify with the destructive and violent passages in the scripture.

If you are oriented towards peace, you're going to identify with the constructive aspects of your faith.

Imagine if every piece of religious text was like the manual for a car. Some would find out there's an accelerator pedal and drive straight ahead without ever finding out that there's a steering wheel, because they didn't consider all the information.

Ninescore and ten years ago, our forefathers left the British empire. Since then, how many calandar years have there been without American involvement in a war, invasion, military action, or covert operation aimed at controlling another nation? I think the answer could be in the single digits! I'll check the details and post an edit. No, it's not Christian teaching, it's immorality.

That said, there have been other states in history that have been more violent, and violence is commonplace in history. I don't know if there has ever been a time of world peace since Pax Romana about 2000 years ago. Do you honestly think violence is an American problem--I believe it is a problem with people in general.

No, it all started with Great Britain and France. Without these two opposing views the USA wouldn't have been created. If we look long before that, there were the Crusades, this was one of the most violent wars in history. But this was also long before the US was created. Let's also look back to Genghis Khan he was a very violent person, and led his warriors to created one of the largest empires in history, this took a lot of violence, and this had nothing to do with religion. We do not hate the other countries if we did, we couldn't trade with them, thus the economy would go down severly. No, this doesn't anything have to do with Christian Based beliefs. Violence started long before the US and there were wars that created even more violence. There is no way that this is the most violent state in history, we must look to the past to find even more answers.

Who can really give a definitive answer? Maybe the shift of people from the inner cities to the suburbs and x-urbs. Maybe the knowledge that in many states, an unarmed victim isn't a sure thing anymore. Maybe improved economic conditions (until recently). There could be a million factors.

Where to begin...

To ask such a question, you are obviously ignorant of much of the history of the 20th century. Do yourself a favor and study the regimes of Stalin and Lenin in Russia. Then take a look at the Japanese atrocities committed in China and Korea. With very little effort at all, you can learn of the MANY nations that have a history of violence that far surpasses that of the U.S.

I fear that a discussion of the morality (or lack thereof) behind state-sponsored violence would be far over your head.

Let us see....

No.

Carthage, Egypt, Rome, Macedonia, Hungary, Germany, Russia, France, England, China, Japan, Korea, the Viking States, Mongolia, Siam, India, Persia, Ethopia......if you are going to say history you should read it once in a while. All the above nations invaded and waged more wars than the USA ever has.

Oh great. So now you want both academic and constructive answers? Who do you think you are anyway? Have you looked in a history book lately? Just in this past century alone, Germany has started 2 world wars. 2. Just in case you were counting. And you want to ask if the US is the most violent state in history? Me thinks thou should open a history book now and again. Oh yeah, and read it too.

Hardly. I don't always agree with the man in the White House or the direction of this country, but it's a hell of a lot better than Lil' Kim in Korea, Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, the list goes on.
