Now they're saying if you DON'T turn your TV completely off and just press the standby button it'll cost you an extra £40 or something a year and also cause unnecessary carbon emssions - are you like me thinking I'm happy to pay the extra money for the convenience & comfort of being able to turn the telly on from my my bed or armchair and feel they could probably find other ways of reducing carbon emssions without political correctness interfereing with peoples personal entertainment ?

The much maligned 4x4 and wanting to penalise people for using them when - as the man from the Top Gear programme pointed out, that some of them are now more fuel efficent with less emissions than some smaller engined cars - isn't this just about jealousy ?

And all this recycling rubbish (if you'll excuse the pun) - what is the point of recycling rubbish when half the time refuse goes to the recycling centre and the recycling machine breaks down and the rubbish ends up in landfill anyway ?

What I am driving at is this:-

If you want people to do the right thing - don't you have to make it convenient for them rather than difficult ? All the big commerical companies know with their reward cards and schemes that CARROT works far better than STICK - so why can't councils and governments understand this and impliment strategies accordingly ?

Oooooh, fantastic point!!!! I recycle cos it means I get an extra bin outside my house and I don't have to drag extra bin bags that wont fit into my rubbish bin, down to the curb. I leave my tv on standby cos I don't know how to turn it off properly (the buttons on the side somewhere, I haven't looked for it). I don't drive a 4x4 cos I can't afford one, but I bet they are much more efficient than my neighbours little banger that gulps out crap every time she starts the engine.

I hear your points and a agree with them to an extent, but just like everything else in society the hold up is money.

The most painful example of this lies in the petroleum business. Are you going to tell me that we have the technology to clone sheep and land on the moon, but we can not figure out a alternative of gasoline. The problem is that the wealth stockholders would stand to lose their shirts and many politicians are vested to the industry, but if we really were concerned about the environment this would solve so many more problems than the 6 stinking remote controls you and I use.

The world really does revolve around you doesn't it. Yes, there is a lot to do to reduce emissions, but the idea isn't to save the planet so as not to inconvenience you. You switching off your TV is a tiny thing, but if millions do it, maybe the planet might be a little better for all of us.

You also seem to be one of those fools who dismisses anything you don't understand, or anything that suggests you change your lifestyle slightly as political correctness. That means you can ignore it?

Basically, you are just too idle to make any tiny effort to alter your indulgent lifestyle. That's fine. Just tell us you are a lazy slob who can't be bothered. Don't bore us with your pathetic excuses.

I always put the tv off at the switch because I pay the leccy bill and I'm a stingy ol' b****ard really. I can use that £40 on drinks or pizzas anyway!
