Will the Democrats and Republicans hatred turn into actual fighting? The comments one reads on here suggest they might. The comments from the democratic side are so hate filled what will they do about it? If they lose will they fight? If the Republicans lose will they no longer be able to stand the Democrats? The last few elections have become more and more nasty.

Ideas on this.....

Point well taken but for us to reach that point, it will have weakened us and left us open to some sort of terroristic attack like 9/11, which will bring about a unity again that will last a few years, possibly much longer than 9/11 aftermath did.

No. While the rabid politicos on here (myself included) could easily start fighting with one another, many of the politicians at Capitol Hill actually do not hate one another as they sometimes seem. And it wouldn't be good for either party to start a civil war, so they're not going to do it. There isn't a grassroots movement in the world that could be big enough to start a civil war between liberals and conservatives without the leadership of the party leaders.

And if you really research the differences between the parties, you'll find they really have more in common than not. It's the wedge issues that divide them, and the country. But for the most part, they're actually pretty agreeable with one another.

It used to be a party founded on the ideals of freedom and liberty (i.e Barry Goldwater style conservatives--- read his book Conscience of a Conservative)...In this day and age these true conservatives have all gravitated or been relabelled as Libertarians. The religious right made a swift grab for power during the Reagan years and they never let go. Really, the Republican party was hijacked. The ideals of personal and financial freedom was abandoned by the notion of fundamentalist christian idealism......Sad state of affairs but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The Libertarians are making a huge impact and they are seeing real growth.

actually, we have a long history of nasty rhetoric, mudslinging and heated political battles in this country. It can be shocking, but believe it or not, it's fairly typical. I wouldn't be concerned in the least about the potential for their to be a civil war here. We have strong, competing positions and political foundations, yet this country still maintains an incredible amount of stability. Politics have always been surrounded by controversy and intense emotional, sometimes hateful debate. It's nothing new and it's certainly not going to start any type of war.

No, because the two parties don't disagree on a difinitive issue. Slavery caused the first Civil War, not general political disagreement.

this is a very limited selection of the US :) but other than that i don't' see a Civil War so much as i see a split in the republican party between the neocons and the fiscal republicans.

No, there will be no civil war. Nothing about this year's political cycle has been civil. I dont believe it will come to blows, but there's enough mud slinging to replace all of Al Gore's melting glacier.

It happened before. The conservatives in the south didn't want to free the slaves. They were the ones who tried to secede, they were the ones who called abolitionist progressives satanists. Any other "point" is just factualy wrong.

Both parties are puppets that serve the same master. They won't and never fight. It's the common man that always sheds the blood for THEIR choices.

No, you would have to have two parties that are willing to fight, and everybody knows that Democrats won't fight for anything. They just want to talk.
