Refer your motherboard manual and find the maximum amount of ram it can support. consider that info when deciding to buy ram card(s).
remove the case of your pc
I think you know what a ram card is and how it look likes.
There should be a sticker on the existing ram card(s)
Write everything you see on that sticker on a paper..(like this 128 mb, ddr, pc 333, kingston)
Go to the shop and ask for the exact type of ram you need. information on the sticker will help you.
i don't recommend removing the existing ram and handling it. that's not good. it can damage your ram card.

There's all sorts of different types of RAM that run at varying speeds so it's VERY IMPORTANT to get the right type and speed. Firstly check your owner's manual or the motherboard manual, whichever you have, as it will tell you in there. Alternatively, if you have a brand name PC, go to the maunufaturer's web site and research your exact model in there to find out.

best way to do it is phone around and ask questions about ram from the guys at store. if it is old computer you need older ram. best to either take your computer with you or take the ram cards out and take them with you, that way you can get matchin ones, that is what i did when i upgraded to 512 ram which is great from 128ram. computer is way better now

check the ram that you already have, and buy the same type. You can also check your Manuel or the manufacture website for additional information!
