No, usually not. I heard my baby's heartbeat for the first time at 11 weeks. I saw the heart beating when I had my first ultrasound at 9 weeks. I think that once you hear that heartbeat it really makes you realize that there is a little one inside you. It was really exciting!!

My baby's heart beat was detected at 5w 4d. It was 144 bpm, but it was an internal u/s and the Dr commented that was early to hear the heat beat and that it is usually not heard until around 7-8w. Again, this is with an internal u/s which I got from a high risk reproductive endocrinologist, and a second from a high risk ob/gyn. If you did or did not hear the heart rate, it's early for you to worry and if there was any sign of something being wrong, your Dr would have brought it to your attention. Congrats on you little one!!!

you can have a pelvic ultrasound and that is the best to be able to hear the heart beat that early...usually docs dont want to see you intill you are 8-9 weeks and they can use a doppler to locate the heartbeat

You can hear it faintly by ultrasound, but it's best, if you do an ultrasound when you're 7 weeks pregnant.
I am 6 weeks pregnant too, and the midwife told me to go for the first ultrasound next week.

No...you can see it flicker on an ultrasound, but you will not be able to actually hear with a dopplar until 9-11 weeks.

Possible but Not very likely. I didn't hear my daughter's until about 10-12 weeks.

not likely, but there IS a heartbeat. the heart starts beating around 28 days, when it is only the size of a sesame seed (amazing, isn't it?).

No, you usally can't hear it until 10 to 12 weeks. At this point you can barely see it on the ultrasound.

Congrats to you!
