A second on the Erector sets! Get him a starter kit, and if he likes it, (He will) any set you get after that will compound the fun.

This is a great tip: If you go to any place that sells lumber, they are sure to have scraps that they are more than willing to give away. Get him some gorilla glue and let him go at it. He can be a building king and have a blast. We did this with my nephew and we got him a box of really fat nails to go with it. We were building our dog house and this kept him busy. We even got him some sanding paper to go with his little set. Have fun playing!

My boys liked to build also. We got into KNex, and those magnet kind of knex, don't remember what they are called. They also had some Erector sets.

the rockenbok is a GREAT creative toy...it is a bit pricey...starter set goes for about $100 but it is very well made...and used ALOT.
It combines construction with radio controls...it is alot of fun.
