Most other tortoises do hibernate. The basic facts on how to manage hibernation for adults are explained in the link below. Juveniles can also be hibernated, and in general a period of hibernation is beneficial as it results in much more natural rates of growth than does continual activity.

Go to www.thetortoiseshop.com for excellent info. Do not feed up a tortoise before hibernation. It just rots in their stomach and causes infection. A leopard tortoise doesnt hibernate but research the web for the best info.

I do know that people do put their tortoise in a box to hibernate for winter. I have seen them do it on Blue Peter as they have a tortoise. Maybe have a look on their website. Here is the link:

Usually, keepers only hibernate tortoises to help with breeding success. You can hibernate it if you want, but most keepers have better luck with keeping them up and active all winter.

Put her in a cardboard box full of scrunched up newspaper in a quiet warm place out of the way; otherwise she might die outside in the cold.

When she gets a bit sluggish, put her in a box of hay and put it in a cold DRY room or a frost-free garage. Feed her up well first.
