Dracula was a specific Vampire, and unusual in that he WASNT bitten to become a Vampire, he was 'cursed' by God. BramStoker wrote the Dracula story and it has several 'predessors'. The WAS a count Dracula, but the Vampire story ties in with Vlad the Impaler; and / or A Spanish Crusader who was made 'invincible' by God, but feared and demonised by his enemies.

Vampires in General are Mortal corpses inhabited by a Demon, cause by dark rituals and blood drinking. Basically a 'bad' witch would talk to spirits; and eventually communicate with a Demon, a Demon wouldthen tell that witch the rituals involved; and the Witch could become a Werewolf; A Mortal soul but an immortal body. The witch would eventually die; and the immortal body could then be possessed by the demon, which became a Vampire.

They are bound by several laws; they have no power over mortals but that which they are granted; They cannot enter your house without you inviting them, and they cannot 'turn' you into a Vampire witout your consent - nobody is damned without asking for it!

There are many variants of these themes; but most agree vampires are forbidden to walk in the light; and so burn up if they are exposed to sunlight. Dracula was afraid of Holy symbols, butt there is no great basis for fear of crucifixes in older legends.

Decapitation and burning are considered the best meathods of destroying the Vampire.

vampires are people who are living dead, who drink blood of other people.

Count Dracula, is actually a mythical creature created in the image of Vlad the impaler, who use to cut of the heads of this victims and impale their heads on the stakes and drink their blood believing that this will prolong his own existence.
So eventually the real story got twisted and beheading/ using a wooden stake became a way to defeat the vampire and drinking blood as a source of life.
