No, Muse are English.
They formed in Teignmouth, Devon in 1994.
The formation of Muse began after a fourteen year old Matthew Bellamy successfully auditioned for the part of guitarist in Dominic Howard's band. They were left with a dilemma when their bassist decided to leave, and as Chris Wolstenholme was a very close friend, they asked him to learn to play the bass guitar. After first refusing, he decided to join the band. - this led to the completion of the Muse line-up known today. The band changed names a number of times after this, cycling through names such as Gothic Plague, Carnage Mayhem, Fixed Penalty, and Rocket Baby Dolls before adopting the name Muse.
After winning a battle of the bands competition in 1994 Muse started playing concerts in local clubs in and around the south of England. They were regulars at one club in particular, the Cavern in Exeter.
