I know exactly what you mean! Ring (or Ringu - I've seen that as the name also) is a much better film the the US version. Also, it doesn't really make sense, because the original was called Ring as in the sound a telephone makes, and in the US version it was a ring, like a circle - doesn't make sense. Nor does that guy lifting up that stone well lid all by himself. The original was definitely better!

I haven't seen the US version of The Grudge, or the sequel yet though. Also, I think the original was called Curse (Ju on). I'll google it and put it in the ref space if you like. =)

I think it's because most just don't care quite as much as you seem to. For example it makes no difference to me at all, though it does annoy when people can't spell simple words ;)

Oh and btw.. the original japanese film can be translated as "The Ring" it was only known as ring in this country or ringu in america as a way of differentiating between the original and remake.

Because we are talking about the American version of the movie called "The Ring"

Why would we call a movie titled "The Ring" by the title of a DIFFERENT movie. Even if it was based on another movie, the other version still has its own title.

Is this a serious question? Seems like common sense to me.

Why are some people so retarded? The Japanese don't care if a worded is added when Americans remake their film so why keep acting like a moron and questioning what Americans do.

Ringu is translated to The Ring in English,Ju-On means The Grudge in English, that is why they use THE at the beginning of the movies names.

Well are Americans watching the Japanese "Ring"? NO. We're watching the American "The Ring." Its two different movies.

Because Americans remade the movie and they can call it whatever they want. The two are not exactly carbon copies of each other. And because Most American movies start with THE in the title. It just sound awkward to say I am going to see Ring..or I am goin to see Last Mohican....or I am going to see Texas Chainsaw Massicre

I guess for the same reason people call Bronx "The Bronx." There really isn't a reason or it's just sounds better that way.
