In some instances physiognomy was used to decide whether or not the facial features of certain people made them predisposed to crime.
When this study was first got its big break it was used in prisons...not many there who hadn't committed crimes so the data was a tad bit skewed. Its possible that many in the prison were related and its also possible that some of the inmates had mental problems that manifest in facial features.
I don't think you can tell what someone will be like just by studying their face. Look at Ted Bundy...good looking, charismatic, and a cold blooded murderer...no weird facial features that stuck out.
Do I believe that people have used physiognomy to study criminals...yes...do I believe it always works...nope.

From what I can tell the definition works on the negative aspect. But isn't this the idea that our dating culture is based on?

no because looks can't tell you every thing about that person.
you've heard that look can be deceiving and if looks could kill.
we can't always go by looks to say what a person can or cannot make us do or think.
