Sounds like she is becoming an introvert and needs to surround herself with other people. She needs to get involved with extra-curriculars......sounds like she's slipping into depression....grades dropping/no friends/anxiety maybe?

The therapeutic approach usually involves manipulating the client into finding a solution for themselves. In this case it is a matter of getting her priorities straight and follow them through.

Once she realizes that on her own, you just have to coach and support her through it.

short term achievable goals are OK, but make sure they are not all school lead. Get her to focus on what she really wants. just because you want it for her doesn't mean that's what she wants. Listen carefully to what she has said and has yet to say. You must stay independent. ;-) a good balance between school/home/social.

tell your friend to set short term goals for herself.
they should be 5% more than her previous scores.
the focus should be on improving at each stage.
as she achieves her short term goals she will regain confidence and be able to improve her grades.
