If they were, we wouldn't be here. With no deadly weaponry in their anatomy, small stature, and strength that could compare with their enemies, they turned to their wits. BTW--except for crocodiles and komodo dragons, their were no big dinosaurs in existence when cavemen became a contending species. They fought Ice Age animals. B.

Compared to modern humans they probably weren't as smart. Compared to other creatures of their time they were smart.
There are still many cavemen roaming the earth these days so you can see for yourself ;)

In terms of our intellect yes, but for their time, no.
Cavemen, some of the first humans on earth, are not stupid for many reasons.
They had many ways which helped them survive.
1.They lived in caves. That kept them out of the elements and protected against wild animals.
2. They were able to make weapons to hunt food or if they did not make weapons they used something around them to attack what they needed.
3. They created some of the first community groups. They lived in small groups which hunted and protected each other.
If it were not for them trying to survive we would not be here. In other words, if they were stupid, we would not be here today.
