1. Get more traffic to Yahoo! Google doesn't propose such service at the moment. Have you ever tried to type a question on Google and you can't find what you're looking for ? That's what Yahoo! is after.

2. Sign up deals with advertisers

3. Whenever a question is asked and one or several advertisers propose a service relevant to the question and the customer clicks on it, that's a lead and that means money for both the advertiser and Yahoo!

Its simple!! Yahoo has no idea which service is going to click.. and they can't afford to loose more market to Google so they are trying out whatever new they can.... Well, as far as this service is concerned, they might have a goal of including this in their search results. that way they'll be able to easily point the user to the answer he or she is looking for!! All companies are currently looking for long term profits so there are no ads at present, this service is solving the purpose of gaining knowledge for the yahoo searchbot!!

Hope that helps!!

I believe that by directing more traffic(people) to the answers.yahoo.com website they will in a future create an advertising space on the side of the page so that people will click on it. Plus they might also create a way to integrate a system that recognises the Questions that relates to the Advertisers website so that you will clikck on it. At this moment they are introducing the the answers.yahoo.com so that everone will know about it however after a while they will plug in some advertisers based on the questions ASKED

Yahoo answers is here because IT King can not answer questions like how many cells maketh a whole human body at a time to 1000s of people all over the world. What one learns here is more important than what one doubts. Yahoo is to stay the way it is. Simple.

The idea is to get as many people to use Yahoo so they can sell advertising. More users = more money charged to the advertiser. Yahoo needs to steal users from Google and they have to offer something Google doesn't have.

Perhaps they're only trying to improve user's English and writing skills? Perhaps they were receiving questions like this one and had no earthly idea what the user was trying to convey!?!? They gave up and gave the job to all of us!
