I've heard this a lot and they say it's proven. Is it true? ...and what is a good reference to where it has been proven and documented.

Yes, I have read that your pupils dilate when you're looking at somebody that you like. I don't remember the name of the book where I read it, sorry, but here's a link where they mention this fact:

That will never happen though it is not impossible because certain involuntary actions can be made voluntary by practice. For example my friend has the ability to shake/ move /fold his ears just like an animal and I due to the practice of YOGA could increase / decrease my blood pressure. Similarly if somebody practices dialating there eyes probabily they would find the right nerves that control them and do that. Regarding girls eyes dilate when they look at guys is a bit far fetched . The only explaination for this would be that when certain jolts occur in the body due to fear / surprise / joy etc etc the eyes tend to somehow send signals to the brain to dilate and hence this occurance otherwise it is simply not possible to get the eyes dilated unless some eye drops are put for the same.

I've read that tidbit of in formation too. It was in a book about "finding your soulmate"- I don't remeber the exact title of the book, but the author gets into many psychological and physical reactions to finding and locating "that special person". Playing with hair is another teltale sign that she's interested... various body language is also introduced, the way she sits, dresses, etc.

dialation of eyes in women is a chemical reaction. However women have dialated their eyes for cosmetic purposes for eons.

There have been times in history when women would dialate their eyes with Belladona (Fox Glove), a chemical in that plant that causes muscles to relax. There have also been times in history, not all that long ago, when women took arsenic to pale out their skin color because it was considered better looking.

Look at the painted portraits of Elizabeth I of England. She took arsenic for cosmetic purposes.

It's true. A person that I liked at the time took my picture, and I wondered why my pupils were so large.
They were dilated.
Test this theory by having someone you like take a picture of you and see the results.

yes it has both psychological and physiological explanation. When we see someone we like, our adrenaline shots up.
Our hearts beat faster.
One becomes more active.
In short, our Fight & Flight response is activated.
Normally, the pupils dilate when there is a Fight & flight reaction.
