Their hairstyles.

Seriously, they both commited genocide, both had egos the size of small European countries, both routinely ignored the advice of their military commanders, both often purged their officer corps, and both had a vison of world conquest.

Stalin was a much more cruel and bloodthirsty tyrant. Not to downplay the Holocaust, but Hitler "only" killed 6 million Jews, while Stalin is responsible for some 30-50 million butchered souls. While Hitler was nominally a Facist and definitely an anti-Communist, he shared several of the socialist goals furthered by Stalin's Soviet Union such as government ownership of industry, social welfare programs, and openly antagonizing evil bourgeoisie".

Hitler was German (actually Austrian, by birth) and Stalin was Russian. They were politically in disagreement, as Stalin was a Communist and Hitler was a National Socialist.

In terms of terrorizing people, they were pretty well-matched, although Stalin's body count was much higher.

1. One was from Russian Georgia, the other from Austria
2. One hated his own people, the other hated jews and communists
3. One died in his own bed, another killed himself (most likely)

That's about it. They both killed millions of people and I hope they are both in hell right now.
