Contrary to what people may say not every chevy 350 will just solve your problems. If your looking to replace an early model engine then you wont need to worry about computer componets etc. But if your looking to replace your late model engine (i belive starting from 96) Most chevy Trucks and cars use Vortec Engines wich are a little harder to find. There are pricey even used. I just bought one for $800 with 70k on it wich i think is a good deal. Most wrecking yards will ship them to you for less than youd think, its all about compromising the asking price before mentioning shipping.

Another place is to get a new crate motor right from the source. GM Performance Parts. These are completely new engines with all new parts. Warranty

They sell Small block Chevy V8s anywhere from a mild 290 HP 350 to Wild 425 HP 383.

Prices are comparable to other crate engines

It depends on what kind of engine you want (a used one or a new one) and how much money you are willing to pay. If you want a used engine then try a salvage yard, the classified ads in the news paper, or the internet(ebay, etc).
If you want a new one then I would get one from summit or jegs or any of the major hotrod parts vendors. Just make sure that you are going to get everything you need for the install with the engine or you will have to spend even more money to buy the parts that you didn't get with the engine.

The General Motors 350 engine was the most widely produced engine in the world when it was made. They are everywhere. Junkyards, auto parts stores or if you want a brand new crate engine you can go to the dealer.

If you are ready to spend some money, go to jegs, summit, or a performance site. Another good option is to go to www.jasperengines.com, they rebuild engines and transmisions. They do not sell junk engines, all are inspected and are within manufaturer guildlines. Most will come with a warrenty.

Base model complete engines.
Jasper engine $1771.00
Jegs engine $2206.00
Summit engine $1995.00
