I am a mother of 3 children and when I got pregnant with my oldest I was having periods that would last 2 days and with my youngest I was having normal 4-7 day periods. I have never heard that but I am not a doctor. If you are really concerned with it then I would seek professional medical advice. Your menstrual bleeding should not affect your ovulation.

I never heard of that. I don't think pregnancy has anything to do with how light or how heavy your period is. But what is relevant is your time of ovulation each month: that means your egg is getting ready to be fertilized, so if you have sex at this time of the month and a sperm attaches itself to your egg, then you will become pregnant. However, some people can have miscarriages up to 4 months of pregnancy, or 16 weeks. So after the 16 weeks you should be ok, that means not have a miscarriage. Also good to go for regular doctor visits to check you and your baby , and to take maternal vitamins and maybe extra calcium supplements.
I went to my doctor and asked how to conceive, since I didn't want to wait 10 years before I got pregnant. I already had sex before that and knew basically how to get pregnant, but I wanted more specific information. So the doctor, a female, told me that sex is best for pregnancy during ovulation time of the month. She told me what were some of the signs of ovulation, she said that I am ovulating when I get the cramps before my period. She said, also that the male sperm should be concentrated, that means don't have frequent sex, until ovulation time, it is also better if your partner doesn't masturbate during the time interval, until you start ovulating, so that his sperm is concentrated and more potent.
I did what my doctor said I went to her office on a Friday afternoon, and the next day was Saturday, and I was feeling the cramps before my period, so my husband and I started having sex right away, and believe it or not, I got pregnant the first day we tried, because all of a sudden my abdomen was more tender especially if I would squat when washing floors, and it became hard as well (the abdomen) I was never pregnant before this, so I didn't really know any signs except for morning sickness, which came later. But I knew I must be pregnant, since I never felt like that before, with a hardened abdomen that is tender, the abdomen stuck out a bit, like a semi moon. My husband didn't believe me that I was pregnant, and I said ok we will see. So I went to the doctor after the 31st day of my menstrual cycle, and the blood test showed I was pregnant. Good luck.
Now regarding the menstrual bleeding, if the egg is not fertilized by the sperm, then the egg breaks, and you have your period. So the egg carries nourishment for the baby, so when not fertilized, you have your period. Now the baby is linked to you through the umbilical cord inside your uterus to you, so the baby gets the rest of the 9 month nourishment from your body, what ever you eat or drink. So they say no alcohol, and no heavy medication, check with your doctor about all the prescription and non prescription medication you take, if it is ok for your pregnancy. mermaid199

I think you don't have to worry too much about pregnancy you may just have bled because you had, had sex for the first time this happens sometimes and doesn't have to be straight away it can be a few days later. Get yourself to a doctor if you are really worried you are doing the right thing using condoms keep doing that but get yourself some other contraception also (the pill or implant etc) better to be safe than sorry.

Where do people hear this crap??? NO... ITS NOT TRUE... Getting pregnant is not affected by how heavy or light your period is OR how frequent you have it. I bleed VERY heavy and CANT conceive... So quit listening to the gossip girl... Do some research on it. Rumors like that are CRAZY. Thats like those rumors they had back in the 80's about getting aids from swimming in the same pool as someone... CMON people... Gah!

maybe not dear.both factors are not correlated,however..it will depends how fertile are u..does you get really hot after menstruation and ur under wear, gets wet easily during this period?which last for 5 days or more? 4 to 7 days after menstruation? if the answer is yes..then chances are.,ur Fallopian tubes are able to release lots of quality eggs during ur ovulation period.,and that's what determines,u getting pregnant or not.. it's all about BEEN FERTILE.

I haven't heard that. I know mine are heavy, and it took six months of trying to get pregnant.

I don't think one has to do with the other. Depending on the ovulation period, I think that determines pregnancy. There were so many myths about pregnancy, but it took only once when we were ready for us to have ours. Good luck to you if your trying!
